UnStutter Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 9, 2026
Overview
UnStutter (“we”, “us”) is a speaking-practice app. This policy explains what information the app collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We do not sell your personal information and we do not use your data for cross-app tracking.
Information we collect
- Name and display preferences you enter during onboarding or in Settings.
- Speaking session data: audio, video, transcripts, session stats (word count, pace, filler words, duration, topic), and timestamps.
- Profile photo you choose to upload (stored on your device).
- App settings and progress stored locally (streaks, achievements, notification preferences, video retention choice).
UnStutter does not require an account. We do not collect user IDs or store your practice data on our servers.
How we use information
We use your information to run the app: record and review practice sessions, show transcripts and stats, maintain streaks and achievements, generate coaching tips, and send optional practice reminders if you enable notifications.
Third-party services
- Apple Speech Recognition — on-device or Apple-managed transcription when Wi‑Fi streaming is unavailable.
- Deepgram (via our Cloudflare Worker proxy) — real-time audio transcription when you are on Wi‑Fi. Audio is sent to our proxy, which forwards it to Deepgram for transcription only.
- OpenAI (via our Cloudflare Worker proxy) — session transcript and stats may be sent to generate short coaching tips. We do not send your name or email in these requests.
API keys for paid services are stored on our servers/proxies, not in the app binary.
Storage and retention
Session history, videos, and profile photos are stored on your device. You choose how long practice videos are kept (from 3 days to never delete) in onboarding or settings. We delete expired local video files automatically based on that setting. Uninstalling the app removes local practice data from your device.
Sharing
We do not sell your data. We share information only with the service providers listed above as needed to operate features you use.
Your choices
You can deny microphone, camera, speech, or notification permissions; core recording features require microphone, camera, and speech access. You can edit your name in Settings and choose video retention. For help, visit our support page or email us.
Children
UnStutter is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
